Vindolanda – Roaming with the Romans

Day two took us to the most extensive Roman fortifications on the northern border of the Roman empire. Occupied by Roman centurions for 400 years, this site was visited by Emperor Hadrian, who had ordered the construction of on extensive wall across northern England to protect from incursions from northern tribes. Some two thousand years later, the site evokes the distant past, and reminds us how much has changed and how much remains the same.
