Lunenburg and the Quarterdeck

Day three took us from Mahone Bay to Lunenburg. He hoped to see the Bluenose II schooner, but she was out to sea for one more day. We did see the vessels at the wharf and walked along the scenic and historic waterfront on Lunenburg.

Seaside Lunenburg. The ship was behind us was not the Bluenose, which is also featured on the Canada dime. An image (and link) of the Bluenose under sail is below (not my picture):

We read about the Acadians who were the first to live here, and then were expelled by the British

Historic home of a Sea Captain.
Enjoying the weather in Lunenburg with the colorfully painted buildings overlooking the water.
Architecture. The homes here were built by shipbuilders and were over-built to marine specifications according to what we read.

The historic Anglican church – one of many churches in the town.
Then we drove on to Summerville Center and nearby beaches.
Summerville Center Beach. We went for a walk in the partial fog after arriving at this spot, about 1 hour from Lunenburg. (This picture was taken the following morning).
Carter’s beach – we happened on this sublime beach spot with lovely white sand entirely by accident. We were out looking for a place to eat, and then spotted this incredible beach. It was full of white fine sand, and almost completely empty of people. We delayed our meal, and set out to explore the beach.

A great way to spend the late afternoon. This area was a scenic highlight of the trip. Carter’s beach is near Port Mauton, near our AirBnB in Summerville Center.
Dinner at the Quarterdeck – best lobster ever
